We are surrounded by God’s army. God leaves none of His children unprotected. When we face impossible situations devised by the enemy Satan, God surrounds us with armies of angels to protect us. Here is one example of this in scripture. Our study today comes from 2 Kings 6 (KJV).
And so it was, when Syria declared war on Israel, that the king of Syria decided to slay the king of Israel secretly (v.8). And the man of God, Elisha, sent a message to the king of Israel telling him to not go down to this place where the king of Syria sent men to lay a trap for him (v.9).
The king of Israel took Elisha’s word, verified it, and saved his own life many times (v.10). The king of Syria was very troubled by the fact that the king of Israel would not fall into his traps and he thought that he had a traitor among him (v.11). But one of his servants told him that Elisha was the one who was telling the king of Israel what the king of Syria discussed in the privacy of his bedchamber. He said:
“…Elisha, the prophet that is in Israel, telleth the king of Israel the words that thou speakest in thy bedchamber.” (v.12)
There were no electronic surveillance devices in those days but Elisha knew exactly what the king of Syria planned in his innermost sanctuary. Only God could have revealed these things to Elisha. The king of Syria sent spies to find out where Elisha was so that he could snatch him (v.13). When the king of Syria found out where Elisha was, he sent a large army with many horses and chariots, and they came by stealth in the night and surrounded the place where Elisha was (v.14).
Elisha’s servant got up early, looked out and was troubled by what he saw. The scripture says:
15 And when the servant of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, an host compassed the city both with horses and chariots. And his servant said unto him, Alas, my master! how shall we do?
16 And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them.
17 And Elisha prayed, and said, Lord, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the Lord opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha. ~ 2 Kings 6 (KJV)
They were completely surrounded by the Syrian army! Elisha told his servant DO NOT FEAR. How could his servant NOT fear? His physical eyes showed him that the enemy had completely surrounded them. I can only imagine how afraid he was because of what his physical senses were perceiving. Elisha gave him some words that were intended to comfort him. THEY THAT ARE WITH US ARE MORE THAN THEY THAT ARE WITH THEM.
We can deduce that the servant was still panicking because Elisha prayed to God to open his EYES. When the servant’s eyes were opened, he could see the army of God, that was still hidden in the spirit world to everyone else, completely surrounding the man of God, protecting him from the army of the Syrian king. God then delivered the Syrian contingent into Israel’s hands. You can read more about that in verses 18 to 23.
Do you BELIEVE GOD? In the midst of the onslaught of the enemy’s attack against you, KNOW that the armies of the Most High God surround you too. The Psalmist verifies this:
“The angel of the Lord encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them.” Psalm 34:7 (KJV)
Have faith in God that when the enemy surrounds you, you are also surrounded by God’s army. God’s army stands between you and the enemy and God will deliver you from them. Be blessed in the light of the Word of GOD!

Oh, but isn’t it amazing when sometimes our eyes are open and we still can’t see past our challenges, our obstacles until we open our eyes again and see the remedy that God has prepared on our behalf. Indeed, they that are with us are greater than they that are with them! Great post Sir, as always. God bless.
